Gunnamatta

Beer #1008 is a tea leaf indian pale ale brewed by Yeastie Boys in Christchurch, New Zealand.

An unusual beer from the unusual New Zealand brewery. This is the first tea-infused beer that I’ve enjoyed, it tastes like a beer (thankfully) but with intriguing and very dominant tea characteristics.

The bottle size is 330ML with an alcohol content of 6.50% (containing approximately 1.70 AU / 2.10 UK standard drinks), and it cost me $7.00.

My Rating is 6.00/10 which means it’s a good solid beer and it comes recommended.

Brewer Notes:
When the team behind the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular asked us to create a special beer for their 2012 festival, we started by searching for musical inspiration from their Australian homeland. The tunes led us on a wild conceptual ride but we ended up settling on thi hugely floral India Pale Ale that is ‘dry-leafed’ with a massive load of Earl Grey Blue Flower tea. Gunnamatta – the instrumental opening track of Paul Kelly’s 2004 album Ways and Means – refers to a beach break on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and had us thinking of good friends, cups of tea, surf, beer and rock ‘n’ roll! As Paul Kelly says himself: ‘Deeper water, leading me on.’
