Beer #1521 is an indian pale ale brewed by Croucher in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Another IPA but it’s not as interesting or enjoyable as the Sauvignon Bomb that preceded it. It’s certainly smooth with some bitterness, and it’s slightly sweet (with a hint of honey) and some citrus. It’s good, just not great.

The bottle size is 500ML with an alcohol content of 7.00% (containing approximately 2.80 AU / 3.50 UK standard drinks), and it cost me $12.00.

My Rating is 6.00/10 which means it’s a good solid beer and it comes recommended.

Brewer Notes:
ANZUS was a military alliance between Australia (A), New Zealand (NZ) and the United States (US) that commenced in 1951 in the shadow of the developing Cold War. With the South Pacific being used as a testing ground for nuclear bombs by France in the 1980’s, an Anti-Nuclear sentiment was growing strongly in NZ. In 1984 the New Zealand Government barred Nuclear powered or nuclear armed vessels from visiting our shores. As the US Navy refused to confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons aboard its ships, and with a port visit by the USS Buchanan refused by NZ in early 1985, the US Government announced it was suspending its treaty obligations to New Zealand. The ‘No Nukes’ sentiment in NZ became even firmer following the bombing of the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ Greenpeace ship in Auckland on July 10, 1985, committed by French Government agents. On the 1st of March 1985, New Zealand Prime Minister David Lange addressed the Oxford Union Debate arguing ‘Nuclear Weapons Are Morally Indefensible’, where in reply to a question by a frustrated opposition made the now infamous quote ‘If you hold your breath just for a moment… I can smell the uranium on it as you lean towards me…’. Below is the video footage of David Lange’s contribution to the Oxford Union Debate, and it is simply sensational! Croucher Brewing’s Nuclear Free ANZUS IPA is our effort to repair relations between these three international Super-Powers. While a Nuclear Free ANZUS military alliance didn’t work, the Nuclear Free ANZUS IPA with its heady blend of the best aroma hops from Australia, New Zealand and the USA sure does. After a glass of this it won’t be Uranium they’ll be smelling on your breath. Croucher ‘Nuclear Free ANZUS IPA’ was launched at the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular in Melbourne, Australia in late May 2013. It is now available on tap around NZ, and bottles are expected later in 2013. Keep an eye out.
